KISHTWAR, July 2: Many areas of the mountainous Kishtwar district are facing drinking water crisis due to which the people there are daily taking to streets with empty water pots to demand proper water supply.
Locals claimed that mismanagement of the department concerned is the only reason behind the crisis as there are many areas in the district where water overflows the tanks everyday while the people in some other areas are suffering due to the lack of water supply.
A protest demonstration was staged in this regard today at Hidyal and Hatta road and the protesters raised slogans against the Jal Shakti Department.
The protesters claimed that some officials in Jal Shakti Department are still giving illegal connections after their palms are greased and due to this the common consumer is facing water crisis.
They said that water supply from the available sources is sufficient but the distribution system is not proper which has caused the mess.
The protesting public claimed that they have brought the mater into the notice of the concerned department but no action was taken and they were forced to come on streets.
After assurance from the concerned officials, the protesters suspended their protest saying if the situation fails to improve then they will be forced to protest again.
