Warwan residents demand construction of tunnel for all weather connectivity

KISHTWAR, Apr 24: The inhabitants of Warwan have demanded construction of tunnel between Chaidraman to Dardpora so that the people of this beautiful and lush green Valley heave a sigh of relief and are saved from the miseries of harsh winter due to road blockade.
In their appeal to both Central and UT Governments the inhabitants of the area through Wali Mohammed and other social activists said that Warwan remains cut off for over four months of winter due to heavy snowfall on Margan top. They said the distance from Warwan to Anantnag town of Kashmir Valley is 49 kilometre while that of Kishtwar is 160 kilometers. During the winter in the event of heavy snowfall the people can’t take their ailing people and pregnant ladies to the hospital in time and many die in the way for the want of medicare.
They said in the year 1954 due to sudden snow fall 165 people lost their lives who were on way and their bodies were eaten by the birds as they could not be located for a long time due to closure of road.
They said later in 2008 also 185 people lost their lives due to harsh weather conditions of the winter and last year village Mulwarwan was totally damaged in the wild fire. About 40 houses were razed to ground and people became homeless.
They said in this modern age of Digital India, the Warwan Valley sans electricity, health care and Tele Communication facilities. Recently Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah visited the Warwan and assured the people that their all demands will be fulfilled. They hoped that CM will come to the expectations of the people and take up the construction of tunnel at Margan top with Union Government.
They have also made an appeal to Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh who represents the Kathua -Doda Lok Sabha constituency and Lt Governor, J&K Manoj Sinha seeking their intervention in settling the problems of the people living in this remote and far-flung Valley.
The signatories to the statement besides, Wali Mohammed included Abdul Jabar Koka, Abdul Ahad Sheikh, Mohd Akram Koka, Riyaz Ahmed Ittoo, Wali Mohd Koka, Abdul Razak Lone, Mohd Yousf Wani, Mohd Rajab and Mohd Yousf Lone.
