SRINAGAR, Apr 15: The MLA Kulgam and CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami today said that the Waqf Amendment Act would “weaken” the secular foundations of the country.
Speaking to reporters here today Tarigami described the law as an “assault” on the rights of the Muslim community, warning that it could also impact the unity of India.
“It is also an assault on the secular foundations of our country. These foundations will be weakened if the rights of minorities are snatched away,” he said.

“We have approached the court, and others have as well. We are hopeful that justice will prevail, because this law is an assault on the rights of Muslims,” he said, adding, “We hope the Supreme Court will take note and deliver a fair verdict.”
