SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Police in Handwara today captured a habitual timber smuggler who had been eluding arrest since March 2023.
Through a combination of human intelligence and technological resources, a police team, headed by the SHO of PS Qalamabad, successfully detained the individual identified as Mohd Ashraf Chechi, son of Lal Din Chechi from Shiltra Qalamabad, police said.
The police revealed that the culprit had been actively avoiding arrest since March 2023.
Notably, a Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant was issued by the District Magistrate of Kupwara on March 3, 2023, due to his involvement in organizing an illegal timber trade network.
