RAJOURI, Apr 12: The police from Thannamandi nabbed a notorious bovine smuggler who was evading his arrest for the last over 18 months in Rajouri district.
The police team under the supervision of SHO Thannamandi, Insp Hilal Azhar successfully apprehended Rahat Iqbal @ Raya, son of Abdul Majeed, resident of village Khablan, Tehsil Thannamandi. The accused had been absconding for the last one and a half years and was arrested following a meticulously planned operation by a team of Thannamandi Police Station led by PSI Vishal Kumar.
Rahat Iqbal was declared a wanted individual under the Jammu & Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) pursuant to a detention warrant issued by the District Magistrate, Rajouri. After the issuance of the warrant, the accused went into hiding evading his arrest and becoming untraceable. His actions involving bovine smuggling were inimical to the prevalent communal harmony and peace in the region.
Acting on credible intelligence that Rahat Iqbal was operating as a truck driver in Tamil Nadu and Kerala and neighboring southern states, a special team from Thannamandi Police Station led by Sub-Inspector Vishal Sharma was dispatched to track him down.
After relentless efforts and a rigorous search across multiple states, the team successfully located and apprehended the accused. He was brought back to Rajouri and has been lodged in District Jail Dhangri to face justice. His detention under the PSA was necessitated by his persistent threat to public order and safety.
