KATRA, Apr 21: At the time when the animals are left in lurch due to lack of access to food amidst the lockdown, volunteers of Katra Youth Association are feeding to the monkeys at the foothills of world famous Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Katra , in addition to feeding the stray dogs, cows, mules etc.
Since from the start of lockdown, the volunteers have been regularly feeding animals in and around Katra city . They are feeding bananas, jaggery, chana, chapatis etc to the monkeys, which are predominantly found at the foothills in addition to other animals. These animals were facing starvation due to lockdown.
“The pilgrims who visit world famous shrine used to feed these monkeys with fruits and food, but since the lockdown, these animals were left starving,” said Vijay Proch, president of the Katra Youth Association.
He adds that there are no fruit trees in the foothills to satiate the hunger of the animals. “It is also important to feed these animals as otherwise these animals could enter the city and it could lead to human-animal conflict,” he added.
The Association youth members are Gourav Sanmotra, Sushobit Bali, Gourav Arora, Manik Proch, Vijay Proch, Shaksham Sanmotra, Abinandan Sharma, Arun Sharma , Gourav Sharma, Shiva Proch, Vipul Dubey, Anuj Sharma and others.
