JAMMU, Feb 7: Completely rooted in Indian Ethos, a highly engaging performance of Rajneesh Gupta’s play ‘Tandav’ was staged by Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK), Jammu on the day 4th of ongoing 34th Patliputra Natya Mahotsava, organized by Prangan, Patna, Bihar.
Written and directed by Rajneesh Gupta, the play in Hindi verse, made its mark as a well written and significant script that is woven around a love story, successfully reiterating the age-old spiritual and aesthetical heritage/values for the benefit of society and theatre.
Aptly put as a journey from ‘Bhog’ to ‘Yoga’, the play revolves around Madhav, a Vanvasi, deeply entrenched in nature. After a chance of meeting with Mrignaini, a young dancer, he gets attracted to her and offers her to marry him. The dancer, teasing him, says if he could become a better dancer than her, then she will marry him.
Madhav masters the difficult ‘Rudra Tandav’ after seven years of hard practice and surprises Mrignaini with his expertise but the transformation of Mrignaini to a ‘Nagar Vadhu’ shocks Madhav who becomes a Sanyasi. Heartbroken, Mrignaini also follows the same path.
The impressive acting by Abhey Rajput as Madhav and Bindiya as Mrignaini was praised by one and all. Rekha Sharma as Mother, JR Sagar as Gurudev and Ankush Bhasin as Madhav/Rishabh were also appreciated by the audience. Tarun Charak and Sudesh Thakur as Kunwar and Maharaj gave stellar performance. Other cast includes Amarjeet Arora, Sheetal Thakur, Sahil, Keshav and Chanda.
Scintillating music was composed by Ravi Sharma, make-up was done by Ankush Bhasin, sets were designed by JR Sagar/Tarun Charak, lights were executed by Rajneesh Gupta and properties were of Madhu Gupta.
