LEH, Mar 13: Vinai Kumar Saxena today took oath as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh at a ceremony held at the Arya Nagarjuna Auditorium of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Choglamsar.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Saxena succeeds Kavinder Gupta as the LG of Ladakh. Following the swearing-in ceremony, he was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by the Ladakh Police.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Saxena described Ladakh as the “crown of India” and assured that he would work wholeheartedly in accordance with the aspirations and requirements of the people of the region.
Highlighting his development vision, the newly sworn-in LG said Ladakh possesses immense tourism potential and emphasized that one of his key priorities would be to develop the Union Territory into one of the most beautiful and sought-after tourism destinations in the country and the world.
Saxena also underlined the importance of sustainable and environmentally responsible development, noting that Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem requires careful planning. He spoke about increasing greenery through plantation drives, afforestation initiatives and the development of water bodies. He further stressed the need to improve urban infrastructure, including better sanitation and the expansion of sewage treatment facilities.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to public welfare, Saxena said that, as entrusted to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he would ensure that the people of Ladakh are never disappointed and would work closely with them to transform the Union Territory into a developed and progressive region.
Saxena brings over three decades of experience in the corporate and social sectors. Prior to this appointment, he served as the LG of Delhi, where he initiated several measures aimed at strengthening urban governance, environmental conservation and public infrastructure, including restoration of urban forests, development of green public spaces and city beautification initiatives.
