Viraj Kala Kendra stages patriotic play ‘Ek Panna Gumnaam’ at Tagore Hall

SRINAGAR, July 26: As part of the ongoing Saturday series of stage plays in Srinagar, Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu, presented a powerful patriotic play “Ek Panna Gumnaam” at Tagore Hall here today.
Directed by noted theatre artist Rajneesh Kumar Gupta, the play revolves around the life and sacrifice of freedom fighter Ashfaq Ullah Khan.
It highlights the historic Kakori conspiracy and also features references to Ram Prasad Bismil, Thakur Roshan Singh, and Rajender Lahiri. Each scene received loud appreciation from the audience, who were visibly moved by the stirring narrative.
Rajneesh Gupta not only directed the play but also played the lead role of Ashfaq Ullah Khan with great passion.
Sumit portrayed Ram Prasad Bismil effectively, while other key performers included Madan Rangila, Janak Khajuria, J R Sagar, Rekha Sharma, Mukesh, Tarun Charak, Rishab Manhas, Arun Sharma, Aman Verma and John Peter.
Lighting was handled by Rajesh Raina and music was composed by Yuvraj Gupta and managed by Azad Sofi.
Principal Secretary Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma, said the Cultural Academy aims to showcase plays with moral and historical depth.
Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Vikram Sahay, praised the performance, stating it felt like watching a movie.
“Performance on the stage is a tough job which demands hard work and dedication, and the artists in the play were successful in their efforts,” he said.
Joint Commissioner Ruveda Salam, said the play touched her emotionally.
The event, held in a packed Tagore Hall, was organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
