Srinagar, Nov 7: Residents of Boniyar’s Chotali village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today expressed serious concern over the acute shortage of teachers at the local Government Middle School.
Located near the Line of Control (LoC), the remote village’s residents said the shortage is crippling their children’s education and making it difficult for the available teachers to manage classes effectively.
Locals said the school, which caters to around 120 students, has only four teachers to manage eight classes.
“What will four teachers do for 120 students? One teacher is forced to handle two classes at a time, which severely affects the quality of education,” said a resident.
Most of the enrolled students belong to the Bakarwal community, who already face multiple hardships due to the village’s mountainous terrain and poor connectivity.
Residents said the area remains cut off for nearly three to four months every winter because of heavy snowfall, further isolating students from educational access.
“This is injustice to our children. The Government must post more teachers so that education in this border village continues smoothly,” another local added.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Altaf Hussain Tara, assured that the issue will be addressed soon. “I will talk to the Zonal Education Officer concerned, and the issue will be resolved soon,” he added.
