Scores of villagers, including women, assembled at the site and raised slogans against the district administration and the Power Development Department (PDD). The protestors alleged that although electricity poles were installed in their area months ago, the wiring work was left incomplete, leading to repeated power outages, particularly during peak hours.
The villagers further claimed that PDD officials had assured them that the pending work would be completed soon, but no action was taken. As the protest intensified, the agitators attempted to march towards the Baradhari Bridge. Police intervened to stop their advance, which led to a mild lathicharge. In retaliation, protestors pelted stones, causing minor injuries on both sides.
Senior officers from the administration and police rushed to the spot and managed to disperse the protestors. A few protestors were taken into custody.
However, the villagers have warned that if their demands are not met, they will resume their protest from tomorrow.
