Verma terms budget as people oriented

UDHAMPUR, Mar 8: District president of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) for Udhampur, Sunil Verma has lauded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s budget, describing it as a comprehensive and people-centric financial plan that addresses the diverse needs of the people.
Addressing media persons here today, the senior NC leader emphasized that, despite fiscal constraints, the budget ensures inclusive development across various sectors. He highlighted key initiatives such as the provision of 200 units of free electricity for AAY families, free travel for women in government buses, establishment of new universities to enhance higher education infrastructure, etc.
He also pointed out the significant allocations for agriculture and tourism, with Rs 815 crore earmarked for agriculture and Rs 390 crore for tourism development, reflecting the government’s commitment to these vital sectors.
Verma highlighted that the budget reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable growth and regional stability, with significant allocations for youth and women empowerment, tourism, agriculture, healthcare and local industries.
He criticized the local MLAs from district Udhampur for failing to meet public expectations, both in addressing local issues and effectively representing their constituents in the Assembly.
The press conference was attended by senior leaders Javed Iqbal, Gurmeet Singh Josh, Ch Abdul Rashid, Amarnath and Om Prakash.
