JAMMU, May 19: Forest officials seized a vehicle loaded with Khairwood in Katra area of Reasi district last night.
Official sources said that a vehicle bearing registration No.JK20C-8498 loaded with Khairwood has been seized by Forest Department in Bhaga area of Reasi district during intervening night of May 18 and 19.
The Forest officials led by Block Officer Bhagaon on receipt of a reliable information regarding illegal transportation of Khairwood laid a naka near Compartment 79/K of Bhaga Beat of Katra Range. During inspection it was found that the vehicle has been loaded with Khairwood i.e wood of Acacia Catechu species which is notified as a specified tree under preservation of specified trees Act 1969. The Khairwood was found under illegal transportation in contravention to Section 41 of Indian Forest Act.1927.
The case has been registered in this matter at Range office Katra and confiscation proceeding stand initiated as under rule. All operation has been monitored by the Range Officer Katra under the supervision of the Divisional Forest Officer, Reasi.
