RAJOURI, Jan 18: A Village Defence Guard (VDG) opened fire after noticing suspicious movement near his residence in the Kalai area of Nowshera sector on Saturday evening, officials said.
They said the incident took place around 8:30 PM when the VDG member Rakesh Sharma son of Baldev Raj of Kalai observed an unidentified person carrying a backpack moving outside his house.
“Sensing something unusual, the VDG member fired 2 to 3 rounds in the air. However, the suspect managed to flee from the spot,” officials said.
Soon after the incident, villagers informed the police, following which a search operation was launched in and around the area to trace the suspect.
Police said further investigation is underway to verify the identity and motive of the person seen near the house.
