VC lays foundation of mega ‘Pandaal’ for Science Congress

JAMMU, Jan 16: In a run up to the final arrangements of 101st Indian Science Congress, to be held from February 3 to 7 next month, the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar today performed the “Bhoomi Poojan” and laid foundation of state-of-art “Pandaal” in the University campus.
On the occasion, both the local secretaries of Indian Science Congress Prof Meena Sharma and Prof Naresh Padha; besides Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor Jai Kumar Sharma, Prof Arvind Jasrotia and other senior officers were present. The “Bhoomi Poojan” was performed in proper Vedic manner by the priest and prayers were made for the success of this mega event.
Local secretaries Prof Meena Sharma and Prof Naresh Padha also briefed the Vice Chancellor about the various features of the “Pandaal.” They informed that all the major activities of this four-day event, including the opening ceremony, will be held in this “Pandaal.”
This state-of-the-art “Pandaal” coming up near Gymnasium Hall will have all auditorium like facilities and accommodate nearly 10,000 delegates who are likely to participate in this mega event. It will have features like water-proofing, auditorium like chairs, acoustics, stages, IT equipped and adequate fire-safety measures.
The construction work of “Pandaal” has been awarded through tender process and a deadline of January 25, 2014 has been fixed for the same.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction over the pace with which the work is going on. He exhorted upon all to re-double their efforts to ensure the success of this mega event which is happening in the State for the first time.
