JAMMU, Jan 17: Emphasizing its special relevance for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly border, hilly and remote areas, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and State executive member Wasim Kohli today said the VB-G RAM G Act would ensure inclusive and balanced rural development across the Union Territory, with a strong focus on outcome-based growth.
Describing the Act as a landmark reform aligned with the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, Kohli said it significantly strengthens rural empowerment and grassroot development. He noted that the legislation marks a transformative shift in rural employment by guaranteeing up to 125 days of work per rural household annually, thereby providing income security and livelihood stability.
Kohli termed the Act a decisive move towards a legally backed, transparent and outcome-driven development framework. Highlighting its key provisions, he said the Act prioritizes sustainable rural growth through the creation of durable assets, including village roads, irrigation and drainage systems, water conservation structures, flood protection works and essential community infrastructure, which will reinforce agriculture and village-level economies.
He further said that the legislation integrates employment generation with skill development by promoting agri-based enterprises, rural entrepreneurship, women-led self-help groups and youth-centric initiatives. Stressing transparency and accountability, Kohli pointed out that the Act mandates time-bound wage disbursement, social audits, geo-tagging of works and digital monitoring to curb corruption and leakages.
“Development should be measured by outcomes, not by the name of schemes,” Kohli said, adding that the VB-G RAM G Act represents a comprehensive and future-ready approach to rural transformation in J&K.
