JAMMU, Oct 3: As a part of Navratra Festival at Katra, All India Devotional Song Competition, 8th Kavi Sammelan and cultural programme were held at different venues.
All India Devotional Song Competition was inaugurated at Yog Ashram Complex by Yog Acharya Swami Yoga Nand Ji Maharaj in presence of CMO Reasi Dr LD Bhagat, DySP Ashok Sharma, BMO Katra Gopal Datt, Dy Commandant Tilak Raj, President and Chairman Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra Rakesh Wazir and Shyam Lal Kesar respectively and others.
In the preliminary round of competition, Varsha Jamwal from Jammu took first position and Rakhi Goutam from Shimla secured second position and third position was clinched by Nitin Mahi from RS Pura Jammu, among the 11 auditioned participants in which 2 participants were from outside State and 9 participants were from within State. Cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 were given to the winners respectively.
The Devotional Song Competition was adjudged by the panels of experts in music including Dr Usha Bhagati, Ex-HOD Music, Prof Anupama Sharma, Lecturer Music Government Degree College Parade and Dr CL Verma, Ex-Dean and Chairperson Himachal Pardesh University Shimla.
The grand finale of the Competition will be held on October 10 and winners will be awarded with gold amounting to Rs 3 Lakh and a recording contract with Venus Records and Tapes Limited and likewise the runner ups will get gold worth Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, Katra Culture Club in collaboration with SMVDSB and Tourism Department organized the 8th Kavi Sammelan at Bus Stand, Katra.
Tehsildar Katra, Mohit Raina, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the Kavi Sammelan by lighting the traditional lamp.
Around 10 poets from different districts of the State participated in the literary meet.
Speaking on the occasion, Tehsildar stressed upon the organizers to organize more such programmes in future also.
At the end, the chief guest felicitated the meritorious students.
A cultural programme was organized by the Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India at Government Higher Secondary School, Katra. The programme featuring artists from Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh besides the locals was witnessed by a jam packed audience including the pilgrims.
The cultural bonanza depicting rich cultural heritage of different parts of the country was highly appreciated by the audience.
AD Song and Drama Division, Baljeet Singh was the chief guest on the occasion, while Chairman Katra Culture Club, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vice-Chairman Katra Culture Club Sardari Lal Dubey, President Virender Kesar and large number of people attended the Kavi Sammelan and cultural programme.
