UDHAMPUR, Dec 10: Delegations from Satredi, Soondla, Neeli, Balpur and other areas of Majalta Tehsil in the Udhampur East Assembly constituency today met Pawan Khajuria at his office near Sailan Talab Udhampur and apprised him about their general problems.
The delegation from a village in Majalta, said that there are several areas where development works are progressing at a very slow pace. They informed Pawan Khajuria that there is lack of basic facilities in their own village. “The middle school is not being upgraded, and the existing high schools are far away from their reach with the result many girl students are unable to complete their education,” they explained, adding that despite increasing number of children in schools, the number of teachers has decreased.
Discussing issues related to their land, they said that the schemes of the Agriculture Department hardly reach them. If a farmer wants to grow vegetables in his fields to earn a livelihood, there is no arrangement for irrigation water, they said and added that even drinking water has to be fetched from far-off places.
Another delegation expressed concern over the poor condition of the roads. The roads have been in poor shape and even if some patches are blacktopped occasionally, the same exist not for more than one or two months due to the poor quality work by the contractors, villagers said.
Another delegation highlighted the poor condition of electricity supply. They said that several electric poles damaged during the recent heavy rains have still not been repaired. And where electricity is available, poor voltage is the issue, with the result children are unable to study at night hours, they added.
Pawan Khajuria listened to the problems seriously and assured them that he would meet the District Commissioner and bring all these issues to his notice. He also urged all the delegations to keep a close watch on any development work taking place in their respective areas, and if they notice any compromise in quality, they should immediately inform him so that he can speak to the concerned departmental officials and put a stop to any arbitrary actions by the contractor.
