JAMMU, Sept 11: The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference senior vice president and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil has accused the Central Government of deliberately delaying holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and said that leaving the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the mercy of officers is against democratic values.
Vakil said that on the one hand, the UT Government has completely failed to redress public issues and on the other hand, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not given the opportunity to elect their own government which does not bode well for democratic values and norms.
While addressing meeting of prominent workers in Eidgah, Srinagar Vakil said that the delay in conducting the elections has pushed the people of J&K away from the mainstream instead. He was accompanied by constituency head, Eidgah Irfan Mattoo and Central Incharge Eidgah Constituency, Mohammad Sulaiman Bhat.
Irfan Mattoo lambasted both J&K and Central Government for not fulfilling their promises to provide employment to the educated youth.
“No doubt we see innumerable statements coming from the administration promising jobs to educated youth but till today we have seen no recruitment take place. The administration had to scrap recruitment processes for FAA and SI because of irregularities and corruption in the process. Instead of providing jobs to the youth, this government is forcing them to come out on the streets to demand their legitimate rights”, he said.
Addressing the gathering Constituency Incharge, Mohammad Sulaiman Bhat lambasted NC and PDP’s said there only goal is to achieve power by allying with anybody to secure their personal interests. They can no longer mislead the people of J&K. There is a strong desire among the people for change of leadership.
