SRINAGAR, Nov 3: Coming down heavily on the Omar Abdullah-led Government, senior vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC), Abdul Gani Vakil, accused the administration of failing on all governance fronts and using the statehood issue as a cover for its inefficiency. He said that instead of political blame games, the leadership should unite all parties to press the Centre for the early restoration of J&K’s statehood.
Vakil emphasized that the restoration of statehood is not a mere political slogan but a solemn assurance given by the Union Home Minister in Parliament and repeatedly reaffirmed by the Prime Minister. He said the Central Government cannot afford to renege on this commitment, as it represents the trust and expectations of the people of J&K.
Criticizing the present administration, Vakil said, “The Government has completely collapsed and failed to deliver on even a single promise made during the past year.” Drawing a comparison, he said Arvind Kejriwal governed Delhi effectively despite frequent confrontations with the Centre, while in J&K, the ruling dispensation has failed to meet even basic governance benchmarks.
Vakil urged the National Conference to refrain from making provocative statements that could give the Centre an excuse to delay the statehood process further. He called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to convene an all-party meeting and form a joint delegation of political parties to meet the Prime Minister and Home Minister to secure early restoration of statehood for the development of J&K.
