WASHINGTON, Jan 10: SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service, owned by US entrepreneur Elon Musk, has been permitted to deploy additional 7,500 second generation Starlink satellites to expand global satellite internet coverage, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said.
“SpaceX is authorized to construct, deploy, and operate an additional 7,500 Gen2 Starlink satellites, bringing the total to 15,000 satellites worldwide. This expansion will enable SpaceX to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet service globally, including enhanced mobile and supplemental coverage from space,” the statement said late on Friday.
SpaceX is a US aerospace manufacturer and space transportation company, founded by Musk in 2002. Starlink is a next-generation satellite network launched by SpaceX in February 2018 and designed to provide broadband internet access across the world.
