JAMMU, Feb 4: The Department of Urdu, University of Jammu, today organized a ‘Meet the Poet Program.’, wherein reputed poetess of the sub-continent, Ruksana Jabeen was the invitee poet.
The Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof R D Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while another reputed poet of the sub-continent, Aresh Sahbai presided over the function.
While interacting with the audience, Ruksana Jabeen threw light on her life and works. She informed that her new collection of poetry will hit the market very soon. She said that she was fan of Urdu poetry from her childhood and used to read the poetry of towering Urdu poets of Kashmir in her early days, later she herself started writing in Urdu.
During her services in the Radio Kashmir Srinagar she met a number of towering poet of Urdu world, who appreciated her poetry. A question answer session was also organized in which students and scholars asked meaningful questions regarding Urdu poetry to Ruksana Jabeen, which she replied in a befitting manner.
Prof R D Sharma said that students and scholars should go for creative writings in Urdu, which is not only the sweetest language of the world but its poetry is highly rich. Aresh Sahbai, in his presidential address, threw light on the Art of Urdu poetry. He described Ruksana Jabeen a feminist poet par excellence. He said that the budding poets should write poetry more and more after consulting some senior poets, so that their poetry could be liked by everyone.
Earlier, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Head of the Urdu Department, introduced the invitee poetess to the audience and described Ruksana Jabeen a towering poetess of the sub-continent who had written poetry on the theme of feminism.
The program was attended by students, scholars and civil society members. The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed, Associate Professor and vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sukhchain Singh.
