SRINAGAR, Apr 3: In a first interactive meeting with the employees of Kashmir Arts Emporium and Silk Factory Raj Bagh, the Minister of State for Industries, Mohammad Ashraf Mir today said that upliftment and socio-economic development of Kashmiri artisan will be given focused attention by the Government to boost the world famous Kashmiris handicraft industry.
He said that Kashmiri artisans have golden hands whose handmade products have since centuries fascinated global market. He said large population of the Valley is associated with this sector which is an important component of State economy.
Mr. Mir while interacting with the employees was briefed about functioning of Kashmir Arts Emporium and Silk Factory Raj Bagh.
While visiting various show rooms, the Minister expressed satisfaction over the work of Kashmiri artisans. Appreciating the Tela, Embroidery, work on Pashmina, Woollen Shawls, Paper Mashie, Wood Carving, Chain Stitch, Namdas and Rugs etc, the Minister enjoined upon the officers and employees of Kashmir Arts Emporium and Silk Factory to redouble their efforts for the promotion and progress of this sector to make it a vibrant and more productive.
He said Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is very much keen for the upliftment of Kashmiri artisans and development of this sector and all possible measures are being taken to enhance marketability of Kashmir crafts.
Managing Director, JK Industries, Javaid Iqbal, Managing Director, Kashmir Arts Emporium, Ishtiyaq Hussain Drabu and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
