Sir,
It has reference to the news ‘Omar flays move to set up IITs and IIMs’ published in your esteemed daily on June 10, 2014.
It is surprising that Omar Abdullah has opposed such a progressive step. If the decision is implemented with the focus on quality, it is destined to usher a new era in which our youth will be relevant to the changing technological needs around the globe. Amidst such a stance, I wonder, how Omar Abdullah can justify opening of five new medical colleges in the state when the two existing Government colleges are constantly facing the threat of derecognition by the MCI for lack of faculty and poor infrastructure.
The present time demands that most of the students should have access to the quality technical education. The current premier institutions have not the intake capacity to match the demand. As such opening of such institutions is a welcome step. The only need is that the present institutions are nurtured and there is no compromise on the quality in the new institutions as well. Indian youth have potential and the need is to give them world class training and avenues.
Yours etc…
