JAMMU, Dec 8: A decomposed body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the banks of the Chenab River at Chibbe Mohalla area of Pargwal today, officials said.
They said the body was found in a highly decomposed state, with missing hairs and skull skin, indicating that it might have been in the water for nearly 15-20 days.
They said the body might have drifted into the area due to the increased water flow caused by ongoing de-silting operations at the Salal Dam in Reasi, which have altered the pressure and movement of the river.
Soon after getting the information, officials said, a police team reached the spot and carried out preliminary examination before shifting the body to the mortuary of the Government Medical College Jammu for post-mortem examination and identification purposes.
Meanwhile, police have circulated messages to all nearby police stations and posts in an effort to identify the woman.
They have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that may help establish her identity.
Further investigation has also been set into motion to ascertain how the body reached the area and whether any foul play is involved.
