JAMMU, Aug 1: Unidentified miscreants on Thursday night vandalized a youth’s vehicle with sharp weapons at Sohanjana area along the Ring Road falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Satwari here.
Fortunately, the youth was not inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. A police official said that Keshav Singh Chib, son of Omkar Singh Chib, a resident of Phallain Mandal, had left his home around 9:45 PM to refuel his vehicle from a nearby petrol pump on the Ring Road.
“However, finding the petrol pump closed, while Chib was heading back home, his vehicle broke down near Sohanjana, approximately 600-800 metres from his residence,” he said.
After parking the vehicle on the roadside, the police official said, Chib called a friend to bring a scooty so he could fetch fuel from another petrol pump.
“When he returned to the parked vehicle, Chib found its window panes and other parts damaged,” he said.
On enquiring with locals, Chib was informed that 4-5 individuals on motorcycles and a scooter had attacked the vehicle using sharp-edged weapons.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately. Chib, who claimed he had no enmity with anyone in the area, suspects the miscreants intended to harm him or his family members, who are known social activists of the area.
The incident has triggered panic among local residents, who have urged the police to identify and apprehend the culprits at the earliest. Although the vehicle owner has not lodged a formal complaint yet, a police official said that an investigation has been initiated.
“We are working to identify the attackers and will ensure they are brought to justice soon,” the official added.
