JAMMU, Oct 14: A team of Forest Department officials was attacked late last night, and a vehicle seized in connection with illegal logging was reportedly snatched at Chinnore area of the district.
Sources said the incident took place around 1 AM near Jawala Khad, close of MIET College, while forest staff members were transporting a TaTa mobile vehicle (JK02AX-5967) to the department’s dumping yard.
They said a group of unidentified assailants intercepted the vehicle, assaulted the officials, and fled with it.
The vehicle had earlier been seized by Police Station Gharota for carrying illegally felled Khair wood and was handed over to the Forest Department on Monday evening, sources said.
According to them, 2-3 forest officials also sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Meanwhile, on the complaint of the forest officials, police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law at concerned police station and started further investigation into the matter.
