University of Jammu Alumni Association (UJAA) is a vital linkage between the old passed out students and the Jammu University (JU) and acting as vital bridge for close contact for mutually beneficial impact; more so on this education institution. Numerous passed-outs of JU, established in 1969, had /are occupying highly important positions and making significant contribution in various walks of life. UJAA, though having considerable membership but still has lot of potential and scope for widening its network for optimal positive result.
It may be added that there already are number of prominent persons associated with it and still much more need to be tapped for involvement ! It may be pointed out that this writer too is self-motivated life member of UJAA and PUJA ( Punjab University Alumni Association, Chandigarh) having great pride and respect for alma ma’ter.
The old-students of JU are scattered at various locations, who need to be properly approached and persuaded to join this prestigious organisation. This institution of higher learning ,JU, is making rapid strides with almost all subjects including arts, social, sciences, technical and skill-related studies.
In this temple of high learning in addition to vast campus and decent infrastructure of quality faculty and motivated knowledge-seekers ( both students and research scholars) has in place a ” Quality Control wing” which is working for up-gradation of its standards in multiple sectors and significantly our JU enjoys high status and prestige having ranking of A++ which is a matter of pride. .
The JU Alumni Association (UJAA) is gradually gaining strength, stature and admiration of present and passed-out students and researchers from this premier top institution of high learning.
Recently, a high-level well-attended meeting of its General Body Meet was held at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium, Jammu to chalk out a detailed programme to further re-vitalise through various innovative steps.
Multiple Suggestions
The Vice Chancellor, Umesh Rai, who is patron of UJAA, while presiding over the meeting underlined the need for devising further measures to upscale it both quantitatively as well as qualitatively. They can actively participate and share their experiences, some of which can be utilised for suitably tailoring our policy and programmes.
Significantly, the overall norms of NEP-2000 are already being implemented by this institution which under-pins import of mother-tongue and local culture.
Widening the Base
The need for vigorous drive for furthering membership of UJAA, innovative initiative to democratise it structure and functioning , devise new dynamic strategy for gearing up activities to enable it to play it crucial role and responsibility to enhance the JU’s standards and status and also prove beneficial for the society.
The Vice Chancellor also under-scored need for innovative and vigorous drive in mission mode to further re-invigorate this pivotal organisation for the mutual good of both the alumni and overall excellence of the Alma ma’ter. The education institutions, which shaped future life of the students, are always close to heart for life-long. Crucial point is to have a outreach programme to old students and establish a close contact always..
Mission Mode
The involvement of the passed out students with the education institution will lead to tapping into the wealth of experiences of alumni in multiple fields like administration, academic, judiciary, industry, media or politics and so. Not only the membership has to be raised and widened but efforts must be to ensure their continued commitment for active participation in the various programmes and activities of UJAA.
The Dean, Research Studies, Prof Neelu Rohmetra has rightly pleaded the need for a deeper contact and more meaning connection between the alumni and their alma ma’ter.

Prof Prakash Anthal, president of UJAA, gave details of past activities and also threw light on the future plans tailored to upgrade this organisation. Indu Kanwal Chib,JKAS and Life Member of UJAA underlined importance of enlarging the membership and stepping up its activities.
