Udhampur’s organic Daikon redish boom: A PM KISAN success story

UDHAMPUR, Nov 24: In Udhampur district, farmers are harvesting plentiful organic Daikon radishes, supported by the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
According to farmer Mulkh Raj, the PM Kisan Yojana scheme has benefited them greatly. “We now have an auto-rickshaw, a water pump, and a power trailer for land ploughing from this. It has made a significant difference. We have been working for ten years, and we are now benefiting substantially. We have at least fifty quintals of radishes ready. I must have sold 10 quintals… Along with turnips, and we are planting cauliflower,” he said.
Another farmer Arun Dogra said that they are gaining significant benefits from the PM Kisan Yojana. “I want to say that young people and farmers should pursue farming,” he added.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Harbans Singh informed that 54,787 eligible farmers have receive the PM Kisan benefit worth Rs 213 crore so far. “The instalments of Rs 2,000 under the PM Kisan scheme provide significant assistance for the vegetable seeds they grow during the growing season. This is proving to be a significant help to our marginal farmers, those with small holdings, enabling them to farm more easily,” he explained.
