UDHAMPUR, Feb 15: The long-awaited bus service from Udhampur to Haridwar was officially reintroduced today, marking the revival of a vital transportation link that had been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The service, which had previously operated successively for almost 15 years via Dhar road, was restarted with initiatives and pro-activeness of Pawan Kumar Gupta, MLA Udhampur West, and R S Pathania, MLA Udhampur East.
Speaking at the inauguration, Pawan Gupta expressed his gratitude to the Transport Department and the State Transport Regulatory Authority (STRC) for facilitating the resumption of this essential service.
R S Pathania, in his address, encouraged the locals to take full advantage of the bus service, calling it a crucial step towards improving connectivity. He further advocated for expanding bus services to other remote areas to regulate traffic and ease transportation for those in far-flung regions.
He emphasized that this initiative would be a significant milestone for pilgrims, especially for those carrying out the ritual of immersing the ashes of mortal remains (Asthi) of their loved ones in the holy Ganga and facilitate transportation upto Prayagraj. The service will not only serve religious purposes but will also ensure a smooth and systematic flow of people travelling between Udhampur and Haridwar.
In addition to the two MLAs, the event was attended by notable figures including Kripal Singh, local agent union representative, Diwan Singh, members of the Vyapar Mandal, and other prominent local residents.
This newly inaugurated service will certainly provide convenience to many, offering a reliable and accessible mode of transport for religious and personal journeys between Udhampur and Haridwar
