DODA, May 27: In a strongly worded statement issued today, the Jammu & Kashmir Chapter of the United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) today expressed deep outrage over the recent conduct of Mehraj Malik, MLA from Doda, during his visit to the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.
In a statement issued, UDFA said, “Malik’s behavior during his official visit was egregiously aberrant and grossly unbecoming, characterized by derogatory remarks directed at medical personnel and the incitement of unauthorized videography within patient-care areas.”
The doctors’ body described the incident as a flagrant affront to the dignity of the medical profession and the inviolability of patient confidentiality.
“The MLA’s conduct shows a reckless disregard for the decorum and ethical boundaries that must be maintained within public health institutions,” the statement reads.
The United Doctors Front further warned that such incidents breed “professional hostility, juridical ambiguity and psychological duress” among already overburdened medical staff.
In response to the incident, the association issued four non-negotiable demands including a public apology from Malik to all medical staff at GMC Doda.
The issuance of a gubernatorial order preventing elected officials from engaging in any form of intimidation or extrajudicial interference in medical institutions, ban on unsolicited Videography within healthcare premises to safeguard patient confidentiality and an independent inquiry to thoroughly investigate the incident and provide recommendations to protect the sanctity of medical institutions in the future.
The UDFA also warned that failure to address the matter promptly could compel the medical fraternity to undertake calibrated escalatory measures within constitutional limits.
The organization has urged the government to act with “the requisite gravitas and institutional rectitude” to restore trust and ensure the safety and dignity of healthcare professionals.
