We, the people of Kargil district felt quite elated on reading the news that Kargil shall be provided cheap air connectivity under Udaan scheme. The people had been demanding this sort of service for a quite long time now, but the demand was never conceded for one reason or the other. The only air connectivity available to residents was provided by Army during winter months. Though the service provided by army was of great help to the people, being erratic, people continued to suffer and pined for a service which is regular, cheap and dependable. Now, when Kargil is to be connected under Udaan scheme things will improve and people will feel relieved to a great extent. In the absence of a regular air connectivity during winter months, people here face innumerable problems. The nearest airport to Kargil falls in Leh district which is about 200 Kms frm Kargil. Travelling via this medium was quite expensive and beyond the reach of common man.
