NEW DELHI, Mar 23 : Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the United Arab Emirates President on Monday criticised Arab and Islamic countries for what he described as a failure to support Gulf states facing Iranian attacks, warning that the lack of collective action undermines regional credibility.
Anwar Gargash aid regional institutions had been largely absent as Gulf nations came under sustained security threats.
“Where are the Arab and Islamic working institutions, chief among them the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation whilst our people and nations are facing this treacherous Iranian aggression ” Gargash said.
He also questioned the stance of major regional powers, asking: “Where are the ‘major’ Arab and regional countries ”
Gargash said the absence of a stronger collective response made it difficult for countries to later criticise the role of the United States and Western powers in the region.
“In this absence and incapacity, it is unacceptable later to speak of the decline of the Arab and Islamic role or to criticise the American and Western presence,” he said.
He added that Gulf states had historically supported other nations during times of prosperity, and questioned the lack of reciprocity during the current crisis.
“The Arab Gulf states were a support and partner to all in times of prosperity so where are you today in times of hardship ” he said.
Gargash also warned that the ongoing attacks could deepen the UAE’s security ties with Washington, describing it as “the cost of Iran’s misguided calculations.”
His remarks come as Iran continues to target the UAE and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries with missiles and drones.
UAE authorities say air defence systems have intercepted hundreds of incoming missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles since the escalation began, with the armed forces maintaining a high level of readiness to protect airspace and critical infrastructure.
Gargash said the current crisis should push the region to pursue long-term security solutions beyond a ceasefire.
“As we confront the brutal Iranian aggression and discover our steadfast strength in resilience and endurance, our thinking does not stop at a ceasefire, but rather turns toward solutions that ensure lasting security in the Arabian Gulf, curbing the nuclear threat, missiles, drones, and the bullying of the straits,” he said.
“It is inconceivable that this aggression should turn into a permanent state of threat.”
