Two years on, Mir Behri’s main road without macadamization

Srinagar, Aug 24: The residents of Mir Behri today demanded an immediate macadamization and necessary repairs of the main road leading to the locality from Saidakadal in Srinagar.
The road is the lifeline for the people living in the area and is also the lone route for bringing in essential services such as SMC, Food and Supply, or any medical emergency.
Despite the estimates taken by the R&B Department in the year 2018, no works have been carried out by the administration to repair only road link to Mir Behri.
What is more callous of the Government is that the bridges that come along the road are made of wood and have not been repaired for decades and are posing risk to the local population using the road to commute.
“You will be astounded that road is only 6 to 8 feet wide at most places, without retaining walls, countless potholes from start to end, most of the wooden-bridges are centuries-old and completely damaged that pose threat to precious lives,” the locals said.
The road has got completely damaged due to the non-serious attitude of the administration, which has preferred, the locals said, to look the other side.
“The misery doesn’t end here as the upper layer is exposed; steep pebbles and stones enough to make a journey on foot a challenging job; in addition to it when even a two-wheeler passes by a storm of dust embrace the pedestrian,” locals rued.
The residents said that they have been running from pillar to post, but nothing seems to be getting the attention of the concerned.
“The administration is claiming that Muharram arrangements are being done in every district of Kashmir, but Mir Behri, despite being situated in heart of the Srinagar City, is experiencing a life of dark ages,” locals said.
The residents demanded that the administration should address the issue without any further delay. “The concerned have to deliver on the ground and stop hollow sloganeering of development,” they said.
