SRINAGAR : Two-way traffic was today allowed on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
Meanwhile, the historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was also through though restriction during the morning and evening hours continued due to slippery road condition following below freezing temperature.
A traffic police official told that both way traffic was allowed on the Kashmir highway today after remaining one-way for two days.
He said to allow smooth movement of vehicles carrying employees shifting to winter capital, Jammu, only down convoy was allowed on November 7 and yesterday. No vehicle was allowed from Jammu to Srinagar during these days, he said.
Darbar, seat of the government, including the office of Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues, top bureaucrats and Director General of police will reopen at Jammu today to function from there for six winter months.
Though the Mughal road was through but due to slippery conditions, particularly when snow gets frozen during the morning and evening hours due to drop in the mercury, only day traffic is being allowed.
He said drivers and others who are planning to travel on the road have been advised to take extra care and contact police before starting the journey.
It has been decided to allow traffic only during the day when the temperature is good and frozen surface melts, he said adding this has been decided to prevent any accident. (UNI)
