Two thieves arrested with 50 tolas gold

JAMMU, July 20: Nowabad police today arrested two thieves and recovered 50 tolas of gold and other stolen items from their possession even as SSP Jammu Atul Goel today dispelled rumours that any child lifting gang or miracle performing thieves were active in rural areas of the district.
“Of course some thefts did take place. Most of the thefts have been worked out. However, there was no truth in the reports that some child lifters or miracle performing thieves were active in the rural areas,” Mr Goel said while addressing a press conference at Nowabad police station.
He said police was on the job and most of the thefts have been worked out. In majority of cases, the thieves were locals, he added.
Calling upon the people not to believe in rumours, the SSP Jammu said the police was at the disposal of the people. The people were free to inform police in case they observe any mysterious movement, he added.
Two thieves arrested by Nowabad police have been identified as Sanjay Gupta son of Hand Raj R/o Shakti Nagar and Nishan Singh son of P R Mandla R/o Shakti Nagar.
They were arrested by police parties headed by SHO Nowabad Jai Pal Sharma.
Recoveries made from the possession of thieves included 50 tolas of gold and various other stolen items.
Mr Goel said the thieves used to survey locked houses during the day and commit thefts in the night.
Questioning of the thieves was on and some more thefts were likely to be worked out, he added.
So far, police have solved six FIRs of thefts registered at Bakshi Nagar police station with the arrest of two thieves. Some theft cases of Domana and Janipura police stations were likely to be solved, they said.
