DODA, June 14: In a tragic incident reported from Nepali Pul area, two minor boys-Abrar and Asrar, sons of Farooq Ahmed and residents of Nepali Pul-reportedly drowned in the River Chenab on Friday evening. The boys, aged approximately 10 and 12 years, were playing cricket with a group of children at a location not far from the riverbank when the unfortunate event occurred.
According to sources, the incident took place around 6 PM when the cricket ball went into the river. In an attempt to retrieve the ball, both Abrar and Asrar entered the water. However, the situation turned grim as the boys were swept away by the strong river current and disappeared beneath the surface. Their sudden disappearance caused panic among the other children present, who raised an alarm.
On receiving information about the incident, the local police, civil administration, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot and immediately launched a rescue operation. The teams made concerted efforts to locate the children in the turbulent waters of the Chenab. However, due to the challenging conditions and fading daylight, the search operation could not yield any success till the last reports came in.
As night fell, the operation had to be suspended due to darkness and safety concerns. Authorities have assured that the search will resume early Saturday morning with additional reinforcements, if needed.
