JAMMU, July 21: Two persons were killed and five others injured when a Tempo skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Samba district today, police said.
A Tempo skidded off the road and rolled down into a gorge in Chowani Khud in Vijaypur area of Samba district, a police officer said.
The victims were identified as 52-year-old Ashok Kumar and 17-year-old Romy Choudhary, he said, adding the injured have been hospitalized.
The Tempo bearing Number No. JK21-1571 was on its way from Vijaypur to Chowani (Abtal). It skidded off on the road near Kamala Morh (Vijaypur). The people rushed to the accident site and shifted the injured to Emergency Hospital Vijaypur where doctors declared two as brought dead. Later the three seriously injured passengers were referred to GMC for treatment while the two are under going treatment in Emergency Hospital Vijaypur. The injured were identified as Sahil Choudhary 15, son of Girdhari Lal resident of Chhattaka Chack, Ankush Kumar 13, son of Balwant Raj resident of Vijaypur, Ritu Devi 26 wife of Om Prakash resident of Chack Balotra, Sapna Rani 16, daughter of Roop Lal resident of Maharajpur and Ritu Thapa 19, daughter of Balwant Raj resident of Vijaypur. The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot. Vijaypur police has registered a case in this connection and started investigation. People expressed their grave resentment on increasing accidents and some blamed Transport Department as well as to Traffic Police for the negligence and mismanagement. They appealed the Government to take the appropriate steps to save the lives of innocent people.
