Two killed in road mishaps

JAMMU, Feb 5: Two persons were killed in separate road mishaps that occurred in Nagrota area of city outskirts and Akhnoor town of the district.
According to a police spokesperson, an Army Jawan deployed on main gate of Corps Headquarters, Nagrota, was crushed to death this afternoon by an Army vehicle while he was opening the gate for passing of the vehicle.
The body of the deceased Jawan identified as Hav Inder Kumar (52) of 1622 DSC Battalion, was handed over to Army authorities after conducting post mortem at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. The concerned police had taken cognizance of the matter.
Meanwhile, in Akhnoor area, a Maruti Car bearing registration number JK02AJ-3336, which was on its way from Chowki Choura to Jammu hit a motorcyclist as well as a Alto Car bearing registration number JK02X-3335 on Daskal Road near Sabzi Mandi.
In the mishap, the motorcyclist namely Yashpal son of Shoonku Ram, a resident of Noor Jagir (Khour) received serious injuries. He was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor from where he was later referred to GMCH Jammu, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
A case in this connection was registered at police station Akhnoor and efforts were on to nab the accused Maruti car driver, who managed to escape from the spot along with his vehicle.
