DHAKA, Jan 20: Two Indian nationals and a Bangladeshi broker were arrested on Sunday while illegally entering Bangladesh through Phulbari border in Kurigram, media reports said on Monday.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) Battalion-15 of Balarhat camp detained the three and handed them over to Phulbari Police Station last night, said Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari police station, the Daily Star reported.
The incident took place at Balatari village near international border pillar number 933, within the Naodanga union of Phulbari upazila.
According to reports, the detainees have been identified as Reshma Mandal, 28, of Purba Bardhaman district, and Sourav Kumar Sapui, 18, of Dakshin 24 Parganas district, India.
The Bangladeshi broker is Yusuf Ali, 24, of Nageshwari upazila, Kurigram district.
According to the BGB and police, the two Indian nationals crossed into Bangladesh with the help of the broker after developing a romantic relationship and deciding to settle in Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, BGB personnel apprehended the broker and the two Indian nationals in the border village.
A case has been filed against them by the BGB with the Phulbari Police Station, the report said.
