JAMMU, Mar 16: Two alleged drug peddlers were arrested with 11.24 grams of heroin-like substance in Peer Mitha and RS Pura areas here today.
In the first incident, Police Station Peer Mitha arrested a man identified as Amit Sharma of Peer Mitha, after recovering about 6.35 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Police said the action was taken after receiving specific information that the accused was carrying the contraband while moving from Peer Khoo towards the DC Office area.
A police team led by SHO Police Station Peer Mitha apprehended the accused near a dumping site at Peer Khoo and seized the consignment during his personal search.
Accordingly, he was booked in case FIR number 15/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of NDPS Act registered at Police Station Peer Mitha and further investigation taken up.
In another operation, Police Station R.S Pura arrested a drug peddler and recovered 4.89 grams of heroin from his possession during a naka checking on Suchetgarh Road near Shamshan Ghat.
Police said a team led by PSI Vishal Singh stopped a motorcycle for checking during routine patrolling and recovered the contraband from the rider, identified as Opesh Sharma, a resident of Kullian in R.S Pura.
The accused was arrested on the spot and the motorcycle used in the incident was also seized, with a case FIR number 56/2026 under section 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act registered against him at Police Station RS Pura.
Police said further investigation in the case has been set into motion.
