The action was supervised on the spot by Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rakesh Minhas.
During the process, two double-storey houses belonging to one Rupesh Kumar alias Bobby and his brother Badal Kumar were brought down using heavy machinery under tight security.
The houses, worth crores of rupees, were reportedly built from proceeds of drug trafficking.
According to officials, repeated warnings had been issued to the duo by the police and administration.
“But they continued to run their illegal business, prompting strict action under law,” officials said.
Local residents expressed satisfaction over the demolition, stating that the area had become a hub of drug activity, endangering the future of their children.
Many youths in the area were reportedly addicted to drugs, and several drug-related deaths had been reported in the recent years.
The administration said it is determined to root out the drug menace from the region and warned all drug dealers of strict consequences if they do not mend their ways.
