Two die of COVID, surge in fresh cases as 557 test +ve

JAMMU, July 23: Two persons died of COVID-19 and 557 tested positive as there was no let up in surge in fresh cases in Jammu and Kashmir while the Union Territory of Ladakh recorded 17 new viral infections.
One COVID casualty and 282 cases were registered in Jammu division while one death and 275 cases were recorded in Kashmir.
A 70-year-old man hailing from village Gurha Pattan Ranjan in Kot Bhalwal area of Jammu district died of COVID-19 and co-morbidities in the Military Hospital Satwari today taking death toll in Jammu region to 2337 and the UT to 4763.
COVID casualties district wise include 1230 in Jammu, 249 Rajouri, 168 Kathua, 147 Udhampur, 144 Doda, 125 Samba, 110 Poonch, 69 Ramban, 49 Reasi and 46 in Kishtwar district.
Among 282 fresh COVID positive cases in Jammu division, 169 were added in Jammu district, 30 in Kathua, 23 Udhampur, 15 Rajouri, 13 Doda, 11 Poonch, nine Ramban and six each in Samba and Kishtwar districts while Reasi didn’t report any fresh cases.
Eighty three persons recovered from the virus in Jammu division today.
Number of active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir stood at 2801 including 1547 in Jammu region and 1254 in Kashmir valley.
Jammu district has highest number of 1048 active positive cases followed by 145 in Kathua, 109 Udhampur, 53 Poonch, 47 Samba, 42 Kishtwar, 41 Doda, 39 Rajouri, 18 Ramban and five in Reasi district.
Corona count in Jammu region now stood at 1,69,568. Of them, 1,65,684 persons have recovered from the virus while there were 2337 casualties and 1547 active positive cases.
A number of Healthcare workers continued to test positive in different parts of Jammu division, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 17 fresh COVID positive cases. All of them were registered in Leh district.
Ladakh now has 111 active positive cases including 109 in Leh district and two in Kargil.
Total Corona cases in Ladakh have gone up to 28726. Of them, 28387 have been treated while there were 228 fatalities—168 in Leh and 60 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Srinagar reported 169 cases, Baramulla 42, Kupwara 22, Budgam and Ganderbal 11 each, Kulgam 6 and three in Pulwama.
One person died of COVID in Kashmir today taking the J&K death toll to 4763 with 2426 in Kashmir.
There are now 2801 active case including 1254 in Kashmir.
