Two die after consuming poison

JAMMU, June 3: In separate cases, two persons died due to alleged consumption of some poisonous substances at their respective residences in city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, a young girl namely Usha Devi daughter of Tarsem Lal, resident of Koratan (RS Pura) was admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu on May 25 after she allegedly consumed some poisonous substance at her residence. However, the girl expired today at about 11 am.
In another case, a woman identified as Surekha Jamwal (54) wife of Rajinder Singh, resident of Garota was shifted at GMCH Jammu late last night after her condition suddenly deteriorated but the doctors there declared her as brought dead. According to the doctors, the woman died due to poisoning. However, it was not clear whether she consumed some poisonous substance deliberately or inadvertently.
The bodies of both the deceased were today handed over to their legal heirs for last rites after completing all medico-legal formalities. In both cases, the concerned police had initiated inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC.
