JAMMU, Feb 29: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today inaugurated two-day Punjabi conference celebrating 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, here at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
The conference was inaugurated by K K Sharma, Advisor to Lt Governor, who said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji teachings, philosophy and legacy are more relevant than ever before.
Munir-Ul -Islam, Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, while welcoming the writers, intellectual and the dignitaries, said that Punajbi Language is one of the largest language spoken by large population of the Indian sub-continent. This language has old tradition and rich treasures of its culture. He said that Academy has organised various literary and cultural programmes in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory in connection with 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Jagbir Singh presented key note address and said that Punjabi language has capacity to compete with other languages of our country. He said that Guru Nanak Dev ji’s vision and ideology was globally relevant all the time.
Prof Jaspal Singh, in his presidential address, said that we should propagate and project Punjabi as this language has rich culture and literature. Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, presented formal vote of thanks. Sudershan Sing Wazir said that the Guru Ji in his whole life and journey gave importance on human equality and dialogues in order to solve many issues pertaining to human identity, culture etc.
In the first session, the presidium was shared by Kanwal Kashmiri, Dr Manojit and Ajit Singh Mastana. The scholars who read the papers, were Dr Rawail Singh on the topic Jivan De Vikalp Atte Guru Nanak Dev Ji Da Chintan and Dr Pritam Singh on the topic Sheeraza Punjabi Vishesh Ank: Ik Parichay.
A Kul Hindi Punjabi Kavi Darbar was also organized and the prominent writers of J&K, who shared the presidium on this session, included Baljit Singh Raina, Harjit Singh Uppal and Jaswant Zafar. S Popinder Singh, Editor Punjabi, conducted proceedings of the Punjabi Conference while proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Har Simaran Singh.
