KATHUA, July 20: A two-day Prashikshan-cum-Intellectual Meet of Saksham J&K Prant concluded today at Kathua, bringing together activists, intellectuals and professionals committed to the welfare of Divyangs (persons with disabilities).
SSP Kathua, Shobhit Saxena, was the chief guest, while Dr Surinder K Attri, Principal GMC Kathua, graced the event as guest of honour. Vikrant Verma, president of Industries Association Kathua, presided over the programme, which was held under the chairmanship of O D Attri, vice president of Saksham J&K. Sardari Singh, district president Kathua, coordinated the stage proceedings.
Abhay Pargal Gupta, National joint secretary of Saksham and chief spokesperson for the event, gave a detailed presentation on the structure and working of Saksham, its Ayams and Parkoshts, and the organization’s mission across India. Emphasizing that Divyangs constitute more than three percent of India’s population, he urged volunteers to work tirelessly for their empowerment and self-reliance. He highlighted that 470 posts reserved for Divyangs in Jammu and Kashmir remain unfilled and called upon the UT Government to act swiftly.
Swami Vishwa Nathan, RSS Pracharak and Sangathan Mantri for Saksham North India, appealed to the ‘karyakartas’ to strengthen outreach from ward to district level and actively assist Divyangs in accessing Government benefits and services.
O D Attri informed that over 65 Sewa Kendras have been established across Kathua district to help Divyangs avail services like Aadhaar, ration cards, and other Government schemes.
Doctors from GMC Kathua-Dr Amrit Rai Bagal (Orthopedics), Dr Niharika Pathak (ENT) and Dr Shivani Sharma-shared expert views on disability prevention.
The event witnessed participation from over 300 individuals, including ‘karyakartas’ from 12 districts, professionals and Divyang beneficiaries. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Sardari Singh.
