KATHUA, Mar 14: A 2-day Jammu Lok Mela- 2016 was inaugurated by MLA, Bani Jeewan Lal and Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Ramesh Kumar today at Ramkot.
This Mela is being organized jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala in collaboration with the District Administration Kathua.
The Deputy Commissioner complimented all the participating performers and said that district Kathua is internationally known for its cultural and traditional richness. He said such kind of events provide a space for interaction with the youth and also help in spreading the message of brotherhood, peace, harmony and national integration.
Earlier, Additional Secre-tary JKAACL Dr Arvinder Singh Aman said that the mission behind organizing such melas is to promote and preserve the rich and ancient folk and also provide space to interact with the young generation. He appreciated district administration and local bodies of Ramkot for their full support in organizing the event. He informed that the next Lok Mela will be held at Udhampur on of March 17 and 18.
Various folk groups performed a variety of cultural items like Massade, Geetaru, Bhakh, Lok Geet among others.
