Two-day ‘Jammu Language Conference’ concludes at JU

JAMMU, Nov 12: The two-day “Jammu Language Conference” concluded today with a valedictory function held at the University of Jammu.
Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, graced the valedictory function as the chief guest. He said that such an initiative would open new avenues for young scholars to explore and promote the rich linguistic diversity of the region.
Describing Jammu Division as a truly multilingual region with diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, Mr. Wani reflected on the contributions of noted poets and writers. He highlighted the work of Late Rasa Javedani of Bhaderwah, whose poetry beautifully portrayed the natural beauty, realities of life, and culture of the Chenab Valley. He also spoke about Janbaz Kishtwari, a renowned poet and singer who made significant contributions to Kashmiri and Urdu literature.
Mr Wani further mentioned prominent Dogri poets including Ved Pal Deep, Krishan Smailpuri, and Padma Sachdev, as well as literary figures from Poonch and Rajouri such as Dina Nath Rafiq, Thakur Poonchi, and Chirag Hassan Hasrat. He also discussed the short stories of Krishan Chander, which vividly depict the beauty and life of the Poonch-Rajouri region.
Earlier, two academic sessions were held, in which about 23 writers representing different languages of the Jammu Division presented their research papers on the theme “Language, Literature and Jammuiet.”
Those who presented the papers, included: Prof Asadullah Wani (Bhaderwahi), Dr Abdul Rashid Manhas, Dr Pritam Singh (Punjabi), Dr Kouser Rasool (Kashmiri), Dr Rajbir Singh Sodhi (Punjabi), Dr Parshotam (Hindi), Shabbir Ahmed Shabbir (Kashmiri), Amanpreet Kour (Punjabi), Sadaqat Malik (Bhalessi), Aseer Kishtwari (Urdu), Dr Chaman Lal (Siraji), Dr Ashaq (Urdu), Dr Parshotam Paul Singh (Gaddi), Dr Shahida Nawaz (Multilingual), Dr Jug Mohan (Siraji), Jahangir Asgar (Gojri), and Dr Fulail Singh (Paddari).
A Multilingual Mushaira was also organized, where poets from different linguistic backgrounds recited their poetry and captivated the audience. Prof Mohd Reyaz Ahmad, Dr Chaman Lal, Dr Javaid Ahmed Shah, Dr Abdul Qayoom, and Dr Jug Mohan conducted the sessions and proposed votes of thanks.
At the valedictory function, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Head, Department of Urdu, presented the formal vote of thanks. The event witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of faculty members, scholars, students, and members of civil society.
