Two bovine smuggling bids foiled

SAMBA, Jan 17: In a significant crackdown on bovine smuggling, the Samba Police successfully thwarted two separate attempts to smuggle animals in the jurisdiction of Police Station Samba. A total of 21 bovines were rescued, and two vehicles used for illegal transportation were seized.
In the first incident, a team from Police Post Supwal, under the supervision of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Samba, intercepted a truck (registration number JK02BK-7834) during a routine vehicle check at Naka Supwal.
Upon inspection, 16 bovines were found crammed inside the vehicle, tied cruelly, and being transported without valid documentation. The rescued animals have been shifted to a safer location. A case has been registered under FIR Number 19/2025 under Sections 223 of the Bovine Notification Scheme (BNS) and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, and investigations are underway.
In a separate operation, a team from Police Post Rakh Amb Talli intercepted a Mahindra vehicle without a registration number at Naka Rakh Amb Talli. During the inspection, five bovines were found being transported illegally. The animals were rescued, and a case was registered under FIR Number 21/2025 under the same legal provisions.
