Truck loaded with timber being smuggled to Punjab seized

JAMMU, Apr 28: In its continuous drive against the smuggling of firewood outside the state (to Punjab) from the border area of Kathua district, a joint team of Forest Protection Force, Gamma Unit J-3, Kathua and Forest Territorial staff of Kathua Forest Division seized a truck loaded with firewood and timber.
Official sources said that the team headed by Narinder Verma Range Officer, Kathua and Mohd. Farooq Asstt Director, FPF Kathua under the direct supervision of Dr Rajan Singh, DFO. Kathua and Dherminder Sharma Dy Director FPF, Kathua intercepted the truck bearing Registration No. JK-20A/4382 at 11.00 AM today on National Highway, near Barnoti, Kathua trying to smuggle the firewood out side the state. The vehicle operators were also detained for questioning.
The case has been booked under the provision of Indian Forest Act. 1927 and the seized truck has been brought to the FPF complex Kathua for safe custody. Further investigation is being carried out.
